About Don Sullivan

Don Sullivan’s career as a Master Dog Trainer and dog behaviorist began in 1986, and he has been a TV personality/expert in Canada, Australia, and then the United States since 2000. His experience includes work with killer whales, seals, and sea lions at the former Sealand of the Pacific. His favorite photo of all time is of his faithful German Shorthaired Pointer, “Wise” (1985-2002), and a sea lion walking together along the observation deck. Wise was so well trained that she had a “free access” pass inside the marine park.

Sullivan's vision as a professional trainer is not to just train dogs. He seeks to completely transform the lives of dogs and their owners across the globe, far beyond what the average pet store class or dog training school can accomplish. Don remembers the trauma he experienced when his dad came home one day with the family Beagle puppy in his arms, bloody and limp. The puppy had escaped the house and was fatally hit by a car. Back then, Don didn’t know it was possible to train his little dog to respect boundaries of his own accord. He later learned otherwise, and one of his key missions as “The DogFather®” is to empower dog owners worldwide to train their canine companions to stay safe.

As an older child, Don Sullivan came to expect little from typical dog training classes. Another family dog, “Major” (a German Shepherd), had so called “passed with flying colors” from obedience school, yet the dog was a menace at home. Canine and family lived in chaos together despite the fact that Major knew very well how to sit, stay, and come. Major simply would not obey in the real world!

Sullivan's career as a professional dog trainer featured a remarkable and quite miraculous beginning (which he details in his book). Nevertheless, Don grew frustrated with only being able to touch the lives of one owner and dog at a time. He sought to develop a simple yet powerful system that could be obtained and implemented by anyone around the world, quickly, affordably, and effectively.
